Ooredoo organized an conference for women in Myanmar, Connected Women Conference. the main purpose is to connect women in Myanmar from different part of the country and career. The conference will be taking place at Park Royal Hotel on Oct 17 of 2014. It is from 9 am to 5 pm. Both local and global women leaders are joining the event. In the event invitation letter, there is an inspiration article.

"In Myanmar, about half of the total population are females so that from human capacity point of view, Myanmar women have very great impact on developing the country itself.

Myanmar women capacity can be one of the country’s biggest forces for development. On the other hand, telecommunication and ICT sector which is directly connected with the rapid development of any other sectors mentioned in the priorities, has been new for most of the people living in the country because about 65.7% of the total population in the country lived in rural area where normally technology won’t touch. Apart from that, according to one of the researches taken in Middle East, a woman is 21% less likely to own a mobile phone than a man in low- to middle-income countries. And nearly 35% fewer women than men have access to the Internet in the region. The reasons could be:

-   Cultural Barriers

-   Affordability

-   Illiteracy

-   Lack of familiarity with tech, etc.,.

So, Myanmar women role in developing the changing environment can get impact on their ability and willingness to access on technology and this has become the potential challenge for the development of the country.

As for the organizers (Ooredoo), we committed to closing the gender gap (between male and female) by

-   Incorporating Women into our core businesses

-   Undertaking consumer insights research

-   Marketing to reach resource-poor women and their communities

-   Incorporating women into the retail and service chain

Mobile phones can help a woman’s safety, learning, and ability to gain access to vital information and services and can be a “quick learning asset” for women to use technology."

The conference will be focusing on the role of women in Myanmar’s changing mobile and technology landscape. Sorry to inform you that the event is not a free event. A thicket would cost 40 USD. Here is thicket order link -  www.eventbrite.com/e/connected-women-conference-tickets-13600047107
